1. Introduction
Wanted People UK ("WPUK") is committed to operating within a robust governance framework that ensures accountability, transparency, and compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements. This document sets out the governance structure and oversight mechanisms that guide WPUK's operations.
2. Governance Structure
2.1 Board of Directors
WPUK is overseen by a Board of Directors responsible for setting strategic direction, approving policies, and ensuring the organisation operates lawfully and ethically. The Board meets regularly to review operations, compliance, and risk management.
2.2 Operational Management
Day-to-day operations are managed by the WPUK operational team, which is responsible for content publication, lead management, platform maintenance, and responding to complaints and removal requests. The operational team reports to the Board and operates within the policies and procedures approved by the Board.
3. Compliance Oversight
3.1 Data Protection
WPUK has designated a Data Protection Officer (DPO) responsible for ensuring compliance with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. The DPO oversees all data processing activities, responds to data subject requests, and advises the Board on data protection matters.
3.2 Legal & Ethical Compliance
WPUK maintains access to legal counsel to ensure all operations comply with UK law, including defamation law, privacy rights, surveillance regulations, and criminal justice legislation. All policies are reviewed regularly to reflect changes in law and best practice.
4. Risk Management
WPUK maintains a risk register that identifies, assesses, and mitigates risks across all areas of operation, including legal, reputational, operational, and safeguarding risks. The risk register is reviewed regularly by the Board and updated as new risks are identified. For detailed risk management procedures, please refer to our Risk Management & Safeguarding Framework.
5. Transparency & Accountability
WPUK is committed to transparency in its operations. All policies and procedures are published on the platform and available to the public. WPUK provides clear information about how the platform works, how data is processed, and how individuals can exercise their rights. The Board publishes an annual governance report summarising key decisions, compliance activities, and areas for improvement.
6. Complaints & Independent Review
WPUK operates a formal complaints procedure that is accessible to any individual affected by content on the platform. Complaints are reviewed by the operational team and, where appropriate, escalated to the Board. WPUK is committed to engaging with independent review where it is available and appropriate, including cooperation with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and other regulatory bodies.
7. Stakeholder Engagement
WPUK engages with a range of stakeholders, including UK police forces, community groups, legal advisors, and the public. Stakeholder feedback is used to inform policy development and operational improvements. WPUK welcomes engagement from any party with an interest in community safety and responsible crime reporting.
8. Continuous Governance Improvement
WPUK is committed to the continuous improvement of its governance framework. The Board conducts an annual review of all governance arrangements and makes adjustments as needed to reflect changes in law, technology, and operational practice.
9. Our Commitment
WPUK is committed to the highest standards of governance and oversight. We believe that strong governance is essential to maintaining public trust and delivering on our mission to support community safety and law enforcement.
