1. Presumption of Innocence
All individuals featured on the Wanted People UK ("WPUK") platform are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Being featured on the platform does not imply guilt, criminal responsibility, or wrongdoing. WPUK publishes information solely to assist UK law enforcement agencies in identifying individuals who are wanted or sought in connection with ongoing investigations.
2. Source of Information
All content published on the WPUK platform, including images, names, and case descriptions, is sourced from or verified by UK police forces and law enforcement agencies. WPUK does not create, fabricate, or embellish any case information. WPUK acts as a republisher of appeals that have been authorised for public release by the originating law enforcement body.
3. Risk of Misidentification
WPUK acknowledges that there is an inherent risk of misidentification when publishing images and descriptions for public identification. Resemblance to a featured individual does not confirm identity. Members of the public should never assume they have positively identified a wanted person and should instead report any information through the proper channels.
If you believe you recognise someone, report it through the WPUK platform or contact the police directly. Do not approach, confront, or take any action yourself.
4. Responsible Reporting
WPUK urges all users to act responsibly when engaging with content on the platform. Users must not publicly name, accuse, or speculate about the identity of any individual featured. Doing so may constitute defamation, harassment, or interference with a police investigation, all of which are offences under UK law.
5. Protection Against Defamation
WPUK takes the following measures to reduce the risk of defamation:
- All published content is sourced from or verified by UK police forces
- Language used is factual and does not imply guilt
- Content is removed or updated promptly when a case is resolved or a request is received from law enforcement
- A formal content removal and complaints procedure is available for any individual who believes they have been incorrectly or unfairly featured
6. Reporting Misidentification
If you believe you have been incorrectly identified or featured on the WPUK platform, or if you believe that content published on the platform is inaccurate or defamatory, please contact us immediately at complaints@wantedpeople.uk. WPUK will review all such reports promptly and take appropriate action, including the removal of content where warranted.
7. Limitation of Liability
WPUK publishes content in good faith and in the public interest. While every effort is made to ensure accuracy, WPUK does not accept liability for any loss, damage, or harm arising from the publication of information on the platform, including claims of defamation or misidentification, where the information was provided by or verified by a UK police force or law enforcement agency.
8. Commitment to Responsible Publication
WPUK is committed to responsible and ethical publication. We will continue to review our processes and policies to minimise the risk of harm and to ensure that our platform serves its intended purpose: to support law enforcement and protect communities.
